Goal: Joe Cole 69'

Joe Cole scored in the 69th minute, and defending champion Chelsea beat Everton 1-0 Wednesday night to advance to the League Cup final.

Chelsea, trying for its third League Cup in four years, won the home-and-home series on 3-1 aggregate and will play Tottenham in the final at Wembley on Feb. 24.

"This competition isn't a major competition," Chelsea manager Avram Grant said. "But any game we can win, any trophy we can take, we will do everything it takes."

Chelsea played without Salomon Kalou, Michael Essien, Didier Drogba and John Obi Mikel, who are the African Cup of Nations, and was missing injured midfielders Frank Lampard and Michael Ballack. Captain John Terry and forward Andriy Shevchenko didn't make the trip.

Everton: Howard, Neville, Jagielka, Lescott, Nuno Valente, Osman, Cahill, Carsley (Anichebe 70), Arteta, Fernandes (Vaughan 78), Johnson.

Chelsea: Cech, Belletti, Carvalho, Alex, Bridge, Makelele, Malouda (Ashley Cole 90), Sidwell, Joe Cole (Pizarro 82), Wright-Phillips, Anelka (Ben-Haim 90).
