West Ham wasted the chance to close on the UEFA Cup places when they struggled against 10-man Reading.

Peruvian Nolberto Solano put the Hammers in front after 42 minutes, by which time Reading were down to 10 men after Brynjar Gunnarsson was sent off for a lunging tackle.

Dave Kitson's shot on the turn earned Reading a point.
